3D Printed Home

This concrete, 3D-printed house we designed for Habitat for Humanity is a model for more sustainable, fast to build but long-lasting, durable, eco-friendly affordable housing. Along with PERI Construction, we designed and built one of the first ever, fully-livable and up to code, 3D-printed houses in America. The 3-bedroom, 2-bath 2,433 square foot home utilizes printed concrete which virtually encompasses no waste as the walls are made of concrete versus 2 x 4’s and all the associated waste, labor and hazards. There was very low overhead and labor, and the 3D printing only required 2 people to operate. 70 – 80% of the home is 3D printed, including all internal and external walls. The roof of the house is a traditional build to allow for arched ceilings and natural light.

“This is really a moonshot opportunity for Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona,” said Jason Barlow, President and CEO of Habitat Central Arizona. “When we consider the housing issues facing Arizona, the need for affordable homeownership solutions becomes clear. If we can deliver decent, affordable, more energy-efficient homes at less cost, in less time and with less waste, we think that could be a real game-changer. Think of the implications.”

The home was completed & a special family moved in February 2022! The completed home uses energy efficient heating & cooling, double-pane windows, solar studies to properly position the home to stay cool in summer and warm in winter, solar panels, and xeriscaping. The house is very secure, insulated and fire-proof making for a very safe and low-cost structure for the inhabitants. Overall, we created a virtual net-zero home with just a 1500sf (livable) footprint.

This home has received LEED Gold Certification.
